Carole Nelson Douglas è una autrice americana molto prolifica, nota principalmente per i suoi romanzi di mistero, suspense, thriller, fantasy e narrativa per donne. Ha scritto un totale di sessanta romanzi, con le sue due serie più famose che sono la serie di misteri Midnight Louie e i romanzi di suspense di Irene Adler. Douglas è nata a Everett, Washington, nel 1944 ed ha frequentato il College of St. Catherine, dove si è laureata in letteratura inglese e teatro. Dopo la laurea, ha iniziato la sua carriera come reporter e editor per un'agenzia di stampa locale a Minneapolis.
La carriera di scrittura di Douglas è iniziata sul serio dopo aver scoperto un annuncio classificato che offriva un gatto nero di nome Midnight Louie.
