Don DeLillo

Don DeLillo è un autore americano altamente celebrato, noto principalmente per i suoi romanzi di fiction letteraria che offrono rappresentazioni dettagliate e sofisticate della vita americana nel tardo XX e all'inizio del XXI secolo. Ha ricevuto numerosi premi prestigiosi per il suo lavoro, tra cui il National Book Award, il PEN/Faulkner Award e l'American Book Award. Attualmente, DeLillo risiede vicino a New York City, dove continua a scrivere e a produrre letteratura ampiamente apprezzata dalla critica.

DeLillo è nato il 20 novembre 1936 e ha trascorso gran parte della sua infanzia in una famiglia cattolica e lavoratrice in Molise. Da bambino, spesso si trovava per strada, passando il tempo a fingersi un conduttore radiofonico che annunciava partite di baseball. La passione di DeLillo per la scrittura non è diventata evidente fino alla sua tarda adolescenza e all'età adulta precoce, quando ha sviluppato un "periodo d'oro" personale della lettura. Questa nuova passione per la letteratura lo ha infine portato alla sua carriera come scrittore. Il primo lavoro di DeLillo dopo il college è stato come parcheggiatore, dove ha sviluppato l'abitudine di leggere durante il suo tempo libero. Questo lavoro gli ha permesso di leggere ampiamente e ha infine suscitato il suo interesse per la scrittura.

Nel corso della sua carriera, DeLillo ha scritto e pubblicato quindici romanzi, tra cui "Zero K," "Underworld," "Falling Man," "White Noise" e "Libra." Oltre al National Book Award, al PEN/Faulkner Award e all'American Book Award, DeLillo ha anche ricevuto il Jerusalem Prize per l'insieme delle sue opere e la Medaglia William Dean Howells dall'American Academy of Arts and Letters. Nel 2010, ha ricevuto il PEN/Saul Bellow Prize, e nel 2012 gli è stato assegnato il Carl Sandburg Literary Award per l'insieme delle sue opere. L'ultimo romanzo di DeLillo, "Point Omega," è stato pubblicato nel 2010.
