Ford Madox Ford, nato come Ford Hermann Hueffer nella contea di Surrey, in Inghilterra, il 17 dicembre 1873, fu una figura influente nella letteratura inglese del primo '900. Fu il primogenito di Francis Hueffer, critico musicale tedesco per The Times, e Catherine Madox Brown, inglese.
La madre di Ford, Catherine, era figlia del pittore pre-raphaelita Ford Madox Brown, che ebbe una notevole influenza sulla vita e sull'opera di Ford. In effetti, Ford successivamente adottò il nome di suo nonno come proprio nome di battesimo e cambiò il suo cognome in Madox Ford. La sorella di Ford, Juliet Hueffer, era sposata con David Soskice ed era madre di Frank Soskice, mentre suo fratello, Oliver Madox Hueffer, era anche un writer.
Come autore, Ford Madox Ford era noto per la sua produttività, avendo scritto oltre 60 opere, tra cui romanzi, poesie, critiche, saggi di viaggio ed esseri rimembranze. Alcune delle sue opere più famose includono "The Good Soldier", "Parade's End", "The Rash Act" e "Ladies Whose Bright Eyes". Ford collaborò anche con Joseph Conrad in diversi lavori, tra cui "The Inheritors" e "Romance".
Ford visse sia in Francia che negli Stati Uniti e le sue esperienze all'estero influenzarono la sua scrittura. Le sue riviste, The English Review e The Transatlantic Review, furono fondamentali nello sviluppo della letteratura inglese del primo '900. Ford morì nel 1939, lasciando un'eredità come un contributore significativo alla letteratura inglese.
