"Gil North" è lo pseudonimo di Geoffrey Horne, autore britannico noto soprattutto per i suoi romanzi gialli. Le sue opere hanno come protagonista principalmente il sergente Cluff, che opera nella contea di Yorkshire. La serie ha avuto un tale successo da essere adattata per il grande schermo dalla BBC negli anni '60, con il titolo "Cluff".
North è nato a Skipton, nella contea di Yorkshire, ed ha ricevuto la sua educazione alla Ermysted's Grammar School. In seguito ha frequentato il Christ's College di Cambridge. Nel 1949, ha sposato Betty Duthie. Dal 1938 al 1955, North ha lavorato come funzionario pubblico nelle colonie africane del Regno Unito. Ha trascorso gli ultimi anni della sua vita nella sua città natale di Skipton, dove è deceduto nel 1988.
Oltre a pubblicare opere sotto lo pseudonimo di Gil North, Horne ha anche pubblicato romanzi sotto il suo vero nome, Geoffrey Horne. Durante la sua carriera, è stato noto per il suo occhio attento ai dettagli e la sua abilità nel creare narrazioni avvincenti e ricche di suspense.
