Howard Phillips Lovecraft, conosciuto comunemente come H.P. Lovecraft, è un autore americano influente del terrore, della fantasia e della science fiction. Nato nel 1890 a Providence, Rhode Island, Lovecraft trascorse la maggior parte della sua vita nel suo luogo di nascita, dove sviluppò il suo stile di scrittura unico. Da bambino, Lovecraft soffrì di terrore notturno, che in seguito ispirò parte della sua fiction. Da adulto, era un individuo schivo e un gufo notturno che viveva con la madre.
