Loren D. Estleman è un autore americano molto stimato, noto principalmente per i suoi contributi ai generi della narrativa crime e western. È nato in Michigan il 15 settembre 1952 ed ha iniziato la sua carriera di scrittore nel 1976. Estleman ha scritto più di 70 libri, tra cui circa 6 diverse serie di mystery, e centinaia di articoli e racconti brevi. Viene considerato un'autorità sulla storia del crimine e sull'America occidentale, con una particolare attenzione per lo stato del Michigan, dove risiede.
Lo stile di scrittura di Estleman è notevole per le sue descrizioni uniche dei personaggi e lo sviluppo della trama. La sua serie più famosa presenta il personaggio di Amos Walker, un investigatore privato, così come altre serie con l'US marshal dell'Old West Page Murdock e il sicario Peter Macklin.
