Mark Robert Bowden è un affermato scrittore americano, noto soprattutto per il suo romanzo "Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War". Nato il 17 luglio 1951 a St. Louis, Missouri, Bowden sviluppò un interesse precoce per il giornalismo dopo aver letto il libro di Tom Wolfe "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" durante il suo tempo al Loyola College nel Maryland.
Dopo la laurea nel 1973, Bowden intraprese una carriera giornalistica, diventando in seguito un giornalista per The Philadelphia Inquirer dal 1979 al 2003. Durante il suo mandato a The Philadelphia Inquirer, Bowden ricevette riconoscimenti internazionali per il suo lavoro, vincendo numerosi premi. Ha anche contribuito a diverse pubblicazioni, tra cui Men's Journal, The Atlantic Monthly, Sports Illustrated e Rolling Stone.
