Shaun Tan è un acclamato autore e illustratore australiano noto per i suoi libri per bambini pluripremiati e film d'animazione. Nato nel 1974 a Perth, nell'Australia Occidentale, ha ottenuto riconoscimento internazionale per il suo lavoro su "The Lost Thing", che gli è valso un Premio Oscar per il miglior cortometraggio d'animazione nel 2011. I suoi libri illustrati, caratterizzati da immagini oniriche e dall'esplorazione di temi sociali e storici, sono stati tradotti in molte lingue e risuonano con lettori di tutte le età.
La carriera di Tan abbraccia molteplici discipline creative, tra cui scrittura, illustrazione e regia cinematografica. Dopo aver lavorato come freelance da uno studio a Mt. Lawley, si è trasferito a Melbourne nel 2007, dove continua a lavorare. I suoi contributi alla letteratura per l'infanzia sono stati premiati con prestigiosi riconoscimenti come l'Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award e la Kate Greenaway Medal. Inoltre, ha ricoperto il ruolo di Illustratore Residente presso il Dipartimento di Educazione Linguistica e Artistica dell'Università di Melbourne grazie a una borsa di studio del May Gibbs Children’s Literature Trust.
Oltre ai successi professionali, Tan è riconosciuto per il suo stile artistico distintivo, che unisce immagini surreali a narrazioni commoventi.
