Stella Duffy è una pluripremiata scrittrice inglese, nota per i suoi lavori nelle categorie di fantascienza, mistero e fiction storica. Ha scritto diverse serie di libri, tra cui la serie Saz Martin, la serie Novel of Empress Theodora e la serie Roderick Alleyn, che ha co-scritto con l'autrice Ngaio Marsh. Duffy ha anche prodotto numerosi romanzi, novelle e raccolte di racconti autonomi.
Duffy è nata il 2 marzo 1963 a Woolwich, Londra, Regno Unito, ma ha trascorso gli anni della sua formazione in Nuova Zelanda. Ha fatto ritorno a Londra nel tardo periodo degli anni '80 e da allora risiede nella città. Nel corso della sua carriera, Duffy ha scritto sedici romanzi, oltre settanta racconti e quattordici opere teatrali. Il suo lavoro le ha fruttato numerosi riconoscimenti, tra cui due vittorie al Stonewall Writer of the Year award e due al CWA Short Story Dagger. Due dei suoi romanzi, The Room of Lost Things e State of Happiness, sono stati inclusi nella lista per il Orange Prize.
Oltre alla sua carriera di scrittrice, Duffy è anche un'insegnante di yoga e una trainee Existential Psychotherapist. Ha co-fondato la campagna Fun Palaces per la democrazia culturale, un'iniziativa che mira a fornire accesso gratuito e inclusivo alle arti e alle scienze a chiunque. Il suo ultimo romanzo, Lullaby Beach, è stato pubblicato da Virago. La ricerca in corso di dottorato di Duffy si concentra sull'esperienza incorporata dell'essere postmenopausale.
