Stephen Greenblatt

Stephen Greenblatt è un autore e professore americano affermato, noto principalmente per i suoi contributi alla critica e alla teoria letteraria. È nato a Boston, Massachusetts, il 7 novembre 1943, ma è cresciuto nelle vicinanze, a Newton. Greenblatt ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca a Yale e attualmente ricopre la posizione di professore universitario Cogan di lingua e letteratura inglese e americana all'Università di Harvard. Oltre al suo ruolo accademico, è anche il redattore generale dell'Antologia Norton della letteratura inglese.

Greenblatt è ampiamente considerato uno dei fondatori del New Historicism, un approccio critico che enfatizza i contesti culturali, politici e sociali delle opere letterarie. Di solito si riferisce a questo metodo come "poetica culturale" ed è stato una figura di spicco nel campo sin dall'introduzione del termine negli anni '80. Greenblatt ha scritto e editato numerosi libri, articoli e raccolte di critica, concentrandosi principalmente sul new historicism, la cultura, gli studi rinascimentali e gli studi shakespeariani.
