Terry Ballantine Bisson era un autore americano di fantascienza e fantasy celebrato per i suoi acclamati racconti. La sua opera più rinomata, "Bears Discover Fire" (1990), vinse sia il Premio Hugo che il Nebula, mentre "They're Made Out of Meat" (1991) fu ampiamente adattato per il video. Bisson scrisse anche romanzi, sceneggiature, fumetti e saggi, dimostrando versatilità tra i generi.
La carriera di Bisson abbracciò molteplici discipline creative, dal suo lavoro iniziale come meccanico automobilistico alla co-scrittura di "Car Talk" con i conduttori radiofonici Click e Clack.
